Happy 27th Birthday to my Hubby!

February 9th was my hubby's 27th birthday! It was a beautiful day filled with family and loved ones. I just wanted to share a few photos of the lovely time we had. =)

We enjoyed a day with family...and he got to enjoy two cakes!

He first got a suprise party from my grandparents and parents...
He got tons of presents from my parents and grandparents.
Then he had his second birthday party at his moms with all his siblings! It was a day full of fun!

We even stopped by our favorite sushi place around the corner...Sushi Tomo! We are regulars, so the owner came out with a Birthday gift of his own. How sweet!

Deep Fried Green Tea Ice Cream! Yummy!

My Engagement Video!

I have been trying to get my hands on this video...and we finally got it! It is our engagement video thanks to my wonderful future brother-in-law chris! He caught all of it on tape =)  I know it is dark and you can hardly see it...but it's AMAZING! Who can honestly say their engagement is on video? It was Christmas Day at Disneyland! =)

Enjoy!

The day my Dad met Roy Rogers!

The other day my father visited us for a cup of coffee and to swap stories. I love taking the opportunity to ask him about the old days since my dad was born in 1940. He has the most amazing memories from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

I have a couple favorite celebrity sitting stories from my pops, but the one that sticks with me the most was when he met Roy Rogers. My father and I always visited the original Roy Rogers museum in the High Desert every month when I was growing up, and unfortunately they closed their doors for good and packed everything a few years ago. They even sold Trigger (stuffed) which still angers me till this day. But onto my fathers story...

The year was 1956, and my father just turned 16. He was still a huge fan of Roy Rogers and was still a member of the Roy Roger Club...so he was an official "Buckaroo."
He went with his father, Howard Putnam, to work that day. My grandfather, Howard, was a worker at the old Builder's Emporium. It was The Home Depot of it's time.

(This is an old picture of a Builder's Emporium store)

So my grandfather knew my dad was a huge Roy Rogers fan, so he didn't tell him what was to come. The moment they walked through the door, Roy Rogers was there signing autographs and promoting his Rodeo show. The Double RR ranch was in it's hay day at that time and so was his television show. My father was ecstatic!

Of course since my grandfather worked at the Builder's Emporium he was able to meet with Roy Rogers privately. He recalls Roy Rogers as simple, kind and thoughtful. He was hand-on. He recalls Roy Rogers placing his hand on his shoulder while he spoke, very personal.

Of course every time I hear this story I ask, "What did he say to you?"
According to my father he asked him: "Do you like the show?"
My father replied: "Yes Sir! Especially Trigger!"
Roy Rogers replied: "Well then son, you and your father are more than welcome to visit my ranch."

My father was stunned! He said he couldn't believe what he heard! A personal invitation to the RR ranch!

My father was more than ready to take that trip down to the Roy Rogers Ranch. The day they visited the ranch there was a live Rodeo Show where they had stands set up for viewing. My father recalls almost fighting with a few other youngsters because they were making fun of Roy and Trigger as if they were "too old" to be Buckaroos. My father stood up and said "If you say one more word about Roy Rogers and Trigger I'm gonna deck you!" Boy was he proud! He felt like he personally knew Roy and defended his honor...and Trigger's too of course!

This is why I have a slight obsession with Roy Rogers. We used to visit the museum constantly. I used to be amazed with Trigger and Bullet. I never understood death, so I truly thought one day I was going to meet him and tell him that he was going to end up being my husband. Ha ha! My father tells my fiance Albrech all the time how I used to say I was going to marry Roy Rogers...and how I could never say Trigger right...so I always called him "Twiggy." LOL.

I wanted to share this lovely story because these artist are from our past, and hearing stories from history from those who lived through it amazes me.

Do you have any "vintage" family celebrity sighting stories?

Our venue and cake testing!!

The other day Albrech and I headed to our possible Venue location to get a peek around. Not only that....but we also found our cake!
It was unexpected, but the other day we did our first cake testing...and I can assure you that it will be the last! We found our baker for our wedding day!

The day started off with us just checking out the Elk's Lodge for a possible reception venue. We are very happy with the venue for our little and simple wedding. The location is very "homey" feeling.

The view is amazing!!! The ballroom has chandeliers and beautiful drapes. I am not an extravagant person so this alone works perfectly. I don't need much more than this...just my guest and I am set.

There is a cute old-fashioned bar next to the ballroom.

After the venue visit, we were recommended to a baker. Since the baker was just down the street we decided to just head down to give it a quick check. The baker, David, was so helpful and humble. He baked us his top choices then and there. We made our decision within ten minutes! We are going with the Sparkling Pink Champagne cake flavor! I was in heaven. The cake was very moist and delicious. I was expected his prices to be higher, but they were beyond reasonable. Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, the baker tells me that he is from GUATEMALA! My home country! It means a lot when you meet people from your "Tierra!" There is a sense of pride and respect when meeting others from your same decent.
Here are a few pictures of our amazing cake tasting!

Good Ol' Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour!

Once upon a time, many many moons ago, my parents used to take me to an Ice Cream Parlour called Farrell's in Rosemead, CA. This was the highlight of my childhood. The servers would chant "home-made" songs and bang a drum as they brought out your "Belly-Busting" ice cream. Well, they were shut down (all of them) for many years, and just last year they started popping back up again throughout California. They finally opened one in Rancho Cucamonga, close to us.

We headed down there with my folks as a little Engagement celebration. The resturaunt is true to it's roots with it's classic soda shoppe decor. The resturaunt has it's original traditionals...banging drum and all!

My Father and Mother joining us at Farrell's!

Then a group of servers came to our table to sing us a funny engagement song with us as the center of attention! Very funny moment.

Then a balloon artist came to our table to make it official...and make us a balloon ring! =)

Of course Albrech had to get his hat...like every other child in the resturaunt! He was very happy! I LOVED it!

If any of you are interested in visiting one of the very many Farrells resturaunts I can assure you that you are sure going to enjoy yourselves. Here is the info:
