Minnie Rocks The Dots

Recently a group of us gals visited the Disney "Minnie Rocks the Dots" art show at Refinery 29 in Downtown Los Angeles. It was such a fun event held around National Polkadot Day. How perfect is that?! We can all agree...Minnie Mouse is the face of Polkadots. She has been rocking them since 1928. The gallery, in the heart of LA, was filled with different fashion pieces from multiple fashion shows from around the world. Minnie Mouse herself was rocking her very own custom ensemble designed by Christian Siriano from Project Runway.

There was an amazing red carpet photo-op area with the best lighting imaginable...which means PICTURE TIME! =)
Here I am with my best gal-pals Tisha and Emily. As you can see we had an amazing time.

I am wearing the most comfy High Waisted Denim from Pinup Girl Clothing (www.pinupgirlclothing.com) and their amazing Sabrina Top in Red. I can't get enough of those tops.

There was also an art wall for everyone to sign and leave little doodles if they would like. It was a must. I am far from artistic when it comes to drawing...but I tried my best. My friend Emily on the other hand did a fantastic job with her adorable Minnie doodle.

Here I am TRYING to make something artistic.

There was some Minnie Mouse merchandise in the art show as well. The Loungefly Purse was very close to coming home with me. It was adorable.

Our New Retro Couches

We have always been on the look out for vintage mid-century couches, but in great condition as well. We had no luck...especially being in Southern California where every hipster and trendy chic person "loves" all things vintage all of a sudden. My rant will stop there. ;)

So, with vintage couches being a rarity we decided to do some research on finding remakes. There are a ton of new remakes out in the market, but for quite a pretty penny. It was way out of our budget...especially since we are so spoiled with thrift store and yard sale prices. Ok...let's be honest...we are down right cheap!

While on our daily ritual of searching on Craigslist for hidden gems we came across a furniture warehouse that was selling some amazing vintage inspired remake couches...and at a steal! At a great price of $549 I was a bit skeptical. I thought...where is the catch buddy? No catch at all! We just had to pick them up ourselves and the assembly was simple.

So if you are in search of some vintage remake couches search online at your usual places such as Craigslist, Amazon (which is addicting), eBay, and Etsy. If you are in Southern California, you can call the same furniture warehouse I picked mine. I took a screenshot for you all below!

Winter Wonderland

The hubby and I recently headed out to Big Bear, CA, on Christmas morning. This year was difficult, especially with the loss of my father, whom was basically my best friend. So you can imagine the holidays were just not the same and became very difficult to endure. With that being said, my husband took me out to the mountains, my favorite place to be, on Christmas morning. We live at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains, so within 20 minutes you can be circling the entire mountain. We made it out to the tubing park for a day full of fun!

I wore all vintage, from head to toe, except for the modern jeans.
Jacket: Vintage 60s Red Jacket
Sweater :  Vintage 60s JcPenny Sweater
Shoes: Vintage 60s Winter Boots

We also took our vintage sleds, which go much faster than anything else that was out there on the mini slopes.

Dumbo Skirt - Process

I promised a blog post on my whole Dumbo skirt process....so here it is! =)

My heart was set on making a "Dumbo Ride" themed felt skirt. I wanted my skirt to resemble the ride entirely and to seem as if the Dumbos in my skirt were in flight.
I waited until I had a ton of Joann's coupons to use for my materials...I had a couple 50% and one 60% off coupon which helped me out tremendously. I used the tutorial by Technicolor Cutie Click Here! which I used for my skirt. She gives a great tutorial on this easy circle skirt, including the right way to cut your waistline according to your measurements. I started off by buying three yard of Craft Felt, a 22'' pink nylon zipper (extra length just in case), and tons of felt squares for the multiple Dumbos I would cut out. After using Technicolor Cutie's tutorial, I had my skirt properly cut and was ready to cut out my Dumbo's .I decided to not use a cutting machine, like my Cricut, so I hand cut my Dumbo Pieces. I printed out multiple Dumbo's off the computer appropriate to size. Each layer of Dumbo was cut and I used that as my template. Although it took me quite a while to master hand cutting each small piece, it was well worth it in the end. All my pieces of Dumbo were then glued. I tried using Fabric glue, but it took too long to dry and would seep through the felt fabric. I decided instead to use a hot glue gun and that worked out much better. Without using too much glue, my felt pieces did not have any seepage of the glue.

Disneyland Circle Skirt

One of my recent custom orders all the way from Australia. A fellow Disney enthusiast requested this adorable Disneyland skirt. The skirt and appliques were created by yours truly. I added a few atomic stars to the Disneyland Castle and a cute Minnie Mouse to the right hip.

Would you like a DIY circle skirt custom made by me? Send me a message at andyseyecandy@hotmail.com

A floral crown was also requested to match the colors of her Circle Skirt. I loved the outcome.
