A day of Thrifting!

The other day I went thrifting around the neighborhood...which is what I do every week for my online vintage shop. This time I wanted to really take extra time for myself. So I wanted to share with ya'll some of the goodies I found....

I got ready with a chiffon scarf headband, my vintage 49er Pendleton jacket, my Atomic pin from thecraveyard.com and my vintage 50s princess glasses (yes they are perscription)

As I got to my usual thirft store, the local news station was interviewing people on why they choose to shop at the thrift store...sure enough the host said "You look like you like to be on camera!"  Well, they ended up interviewing me..and once it is up I will be blogging about the interview and posting the video.

I found a number of good finds...the first was a vintage Disneyland Mug from probably the 1950s or 1960s but it definitely came FrontierLand!

This now goes perfectly with my vintage inspired cookie jars from Disneyland. These were purchased at the 50th anniversary celebration at Disneyland! I am only missing one! They represent each land from Disneyland with the original 50s feel.  The mug was only .99 cents!
(Can you geuss which land is missing from my collection?)

Another thing to add to my Disneyland obsession....I mean Collection.. is this lovely Vintage Disneyland ashtray. It was only $1.50!
I really felt like I was stealing today because of these insane low prices!

I also came across this lovely Wicker, woven 50s 60s Purse with a Lucite handle. I have been collecting wicker and woven straw purses for some time now...not like all the other vintage gals with their lucite purses! =) Just kidding... I picked up this purse for only $4!

I also found these lovely pieces of vintage jewelry. The necklace reminds me of a piece worn by Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy...she wore the EXACT same kind of necklace with her little black dress or black turtle neck. I couldn't pass this one up! I also found these lovely pair of clip on atomic earrings. They have a rhinestone in the middle, while the outsides are wire petals in cream and teal blue.  The necklace was $2 and the earrings were only .99 cents!

And the last piece I found was a much needed plastic 50s 60s shelf unit for the Bathroom! It is so cute! It is all cream with gold acorns along the postings! I found this bad boy for only $1.49!!!! I was $2.99 and they gave it to me for half-off!

It was truly a lovely day to go thrifting! Hopefully next week I have more goodies to share with you while on my thrifting adventures!

My 55 Pontiac...Lucy

So I wanted to share with all of you whom don't already know me...my car is my BABY! I wanted to share a little history about my baby whom I properly named Lucy.

She is a black 1955 Pontiac Starchief. She is the exact same car from the I Love Lucy episode where they travel from New York to California! (Excluding the Convertible Top)

"California Here I come!"

I was on the look out for this car for MANY MANY years...and one day on Myspace I saw someone on my friend list was getting rid of theirs for dirt cheap. Sure enough within a week it was in my driveway. That car has been mine for going on 8 years now..and I will never forget the day I got it ALL by myself without any help from anyone...the funny thing is...they were selling it the week of my birthday...so it worked out perfectly!

When I met the love of my life, Albrech, he was on the look out for his next classic and sure enough he ended up finding the missing piece to our classic car collection...and well, Lucy Obssession as well. He found the same Mercury that comes out in "The Long, Long Trailer" which stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz...

Atomic Pins!

Recently I recieved a lovely package from a new friend, Sue Diabasco, from Canada. She has a lovely shop called the Crave Yard, where she sells the most RAREST Atomic Pins and Brooches. I can't help but place these on everything I wear, including a few of my hats. =)

I love how she ships them to you in these lovely Zebra Print boxes. Very personal touch! It's like Christmas all over!

I couldn't help but wear them for a photoshoot.

Check out her shop online at www.thecraveyard.com or on etsy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/littlesuzyhomemaker

You won't be dissapointed! I promise!

RECIPE: Chocolate Cocunut Cookies!

Well, as promised I was going to be posting some yummy recipes. The other night was pouring with rain! So we decided to have a warm night in and have a bake off! We decided to create some yummy chocolate coconut cookies. We got the recipes right out of our Vintage Cooking Encyclopedia.

Here is what you will need:
  • 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup of shredded Coconut

First, in a large bowl, you cream together the butter and sugar with a hand mixer. Add the eggs and the vanilla to the mixture until combined. In a medium bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, baking soda, salt and flour. Slowly add the try ingredients until mixed thoroughly. Finally add the coconut shreds to the final mixture.

Preheat the oven to 350 degress.

Grab about 2 inch thick balls of dough, roll in your palm and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. (I didn't so this part as you can see below, hehe)
Bake for 10 minutes and Enjoy!

Playing Dress Up!

So the other day I had a cancellation for a photoshoot...so I decided "Heck! I will fill her spot!" I have always loved pinup and modeling, but I have always been behind the camer, whether it be through my photography, my hair & Make-up or my hair accessories...but this time I was in front of the Camera...and I was so much fun!  I didn't have anyone to take my pictures, so I hooked up my remote/clicker and so I was able to take these photos by myself.

Here are a few samples of what I came up with (Hair & Make-Up: Me, Pants: Pinup Girl Clothing )

I truly got hooked on the whole playing dress up and shooting my passions...as you can see my two obsessions: Roy Rogers and Mickey(Disney) was the whole basis of this shoot. I had a blast!

Gene Autry Museum & More...

A few weeks ago we headed down to the Gene Autry Museum with my parents. My father and myself are HUGE cowboy and western fans, so this was a big treat for us! I grew up only watching The Roy Rogers show and Lone Ranger. I couldn't wait to finally get there! Well, after an hour or so of a drive we finally made it. The Gene Autry museum is right across the street from the L.A. Zoo, nestled in the same hills as the Observatory.

Right outside the museum, there is a large statue of Gene...so of course we took advantage of the picture oppurtunity.
I wore my vintage western plaid Levi's pull over shirt along with my Fabulous Freddie's of Pinewood high waisted jeans. The top I found for .99 at the local Thrift.

My parents

Then we headed into the museum and started with the collection based on "Cowboys and the West in the Media." It was filled with an array of 40s and 50s western artists. Among them were Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Lone Ranger, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, and so much more! I made one turn and there it was....the guitar and saddle owned by my Roy Rogers! I was estatic! Everyone in the museum must have thought I was crazy...but I wasn't the only one. Albrech found his idol's costume, Lone Ranger! He kept saying "Take my picture, take my picture, take my picture!" We were like little kids in line to meet Superman.

There were so many photo oppurtunities! =)

There was a Civil War collection in the process of being put together and I couldn't help but take a sneek peek! It looked so interested. But of course I am a history nut. The entire museum was a treat, there was Wells Fargo historical items, Vintage Presidential armory, JFK's presidential pistol, Indian history, the Gold Rush history, and so much more! It is truly something for the history buff to experience.

After the museum we decided to hit a local diner, so we found this cute gem called "50's Cafe." The food was DELICIOUS! The decor was amazing! Nothing taky or typical. It was decorated with actual 50's collectable vintage ads and toys. It was a fun experience!

Boy Oh Boy! What a day this was! =)

Sewing my little heart out!

This project was long overdue and very needed...my NEW curtains! I came across this lovely shop on etsy www.thecraveyard.etsy.com and they had the most BEAUTIFUL atomic print fabric! The best part of it was that the owner, a lovely gal named Sue, makes the fabric herself. It was perfect! It wasn't going to be a common atomic print, so I was set! Once I got them in the mail I decided to get sewing! I cut out the right sizes and got started. This is what I came up with...what do ya' think?

My finished product!

Christmas at Disneyland = Happily Ever After!

After our Christmas morning rounds with the family, I got ready and we ended up heading to Disneyland for Christmas. It was very PACKED but after an hour of hanging out and dining at California Adventure the parks seemed to die down. It was very pleasent after that.
We ate at the new Pizza & Pasta Resturaunt at California Adventure! Very yummy!

Then we took some lovely pictures in front of the tree at the Paradise Pier.

Then after a few hours at California Adventure, we decided to stroll down to Disneyland. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and then decided to take a few pictures in front of the Disneyland Castle. It was a little odd to me that his sisters and brother ended up meeting us there but I thought nothing of it! Then his sister wanted to take a bunch of pictures of us in front of the Castle, but I noticed she was shaking...I thought "What is wrong?!?"

Then Albrech locked eyes with me and gave me the most wonderful words a gal could ever hear...and HE PROPOSED! I couldn't believe it! It was the most unbelievable moment in my life and the most unexplainable feeling. It was incredible! This was something I told him I always wanted...to be proposed to in front of the Castle at Disneyland...my home away from home! Sure enough, he was always listening!
